Why not a travel trailer? Or a 5th wheel? Or a truck camper?
We had a huge list of requirements after camping together for 4 months in the pop-up and after watching a lot of YouTube videos. A drivable RV seemed to check off all of our requirements.
Requirements:
I know I missed some. Adam will remind me and I’ll be sure to update.
However, with that list above, it narrowed the list down to a SINGLE RV. Facepalm, we had literally no options. I will tell you the three things that knocked out nearly all of the other options. Azdel Siding, Tow/Carry a Lot & Price.
We started looking in, I think June 2020. We put down a deposit in late August of 2020 on our choice.
What did we pick???
The Coachmen Freelander 21QB. We picked her up new, I believe she’s considered a 2021 model.
A future post we’ll go in to depth further on this model and why we chose her. And why, to this day, we would not choose another model. Even after watching so many new models come out.
But the name of this post – Class A, Class B or Class C? That hasn’t been answered yet. And do you know, the naming conventions make no sense. I’m not going to post on that, so many others have. I’ll just mention briefly why we did & didn’t steer towards the Class C.
Class A – Bigger and more expensive, usually slides and a lot longer. Less able to get in and out of the places we wanted to go.
Class B – SMALL, EXPENSIVE, limited tanks, shower & kitchen space. Limited tow capacity.
Class C – Seemed to have the best of all worlds. They’re a cutaway chassis with the coach loaded on, and as such, have the cost savings of not needing custom parts and handcrafting, like the Class B’s. Many Class C’s have a higher tow capacity like the Class A’s and they can compete with larger Class B’s for small size.
Stay tuned for our future posts about the specifics of this camper. We’ll also dive into the pick up and the dealer we chose!
