About Us – Living the Good Life || Goals
It all started with a pop-up camper.
Well really, it started with an online dating service.
We met face-to-face in early 2019 for a spring walk in the woods. I (Carly) have two kiddos from a previous relationship and Adam has no children. Neither one of us has a desire to have any more kids. With my kids being very entrenched in their school district, we worked towards moving Adam to where the kids and I were based. In February of 2020, he got a job at a local university and moved to join us.
5 weeks-ish later, COVID hit.
This was make or break for us. Not only had he made a huge leap to move down, we were stuck with each other, indefinitely, in close quarters, with 2 kids.
A neighbor of ours had a pop-up that they hardly ever used. We bought it cheap. Its saving grace’s? It had an air-conditioner, furnace, a water tank & heater, a propane fueled fridge and an outdoor shower hookup. We camped at state and national parks for about 4 months in the pop-up (April to August 2020).
We discovered 2 things. One, we loved camping and each others company. Two, we hated the pop-up life.
Pop-up life required setup (get there at 10pm and 1 hour setup in the dark). It required so much moving of EVERYTHING. Beds, tubs, food, sink, ceiling, anything stored on top, bikes – everything had to be moved and then put it in its usable place before we could function.
But we loved camping. We loved seeing new places and finding new gems.
So we started doing research, made a list of all our must haves, and found our current RV in August of 2020. We’ll talk about that in some of our next posts! One thing that gave our search a different tone, Adam is a facilities & building mechanic, as well as well-versed in auto mechanics. Our entire search centered around the bones of the RV and what we (he) could upgrade long-term.
Over year later, we know two things for sure. We love our current RV, traveling and seeing new things with each other and our mini-doxie, Sofie. And we want it to be our primary home.
To that end, we’re working towards adjusting our lifestyle to be able to travel continental USA and Canada, in our RV. Our goals are an income that supports a nomadic life-style and enjoying the good life.
We hope you join us and keep up with the Good Life Outpost!
